Shreveport, LA – May 7, 2025 – SkyWest Airlines, the largest regional carrier in North America, has announced plans to establish a new maintenance base at Shreveport Regional Airport (SHV). This strategic move aims to enhance SkyWest’s operational efficiency and support its growing fleet of nearly 500 regional aircraft.
“Shreveport’s selection as the site for SkyWest’s new maintenance base is a tremendous accomplishment and a testament to the airport’s strategic vision and operational readiness,” said Emily Garko, Principal at Vector Aviation Consulting. “This move not only strengthens the region’s role in the national aviation network but also brings significant economic opportunities to the community. Congratulations to Shreveport on this well-earned success.”
The new maintenance facility at SHV will bolster SkyWest’s commitment to safety and reliability, providing essential support for its extensive network of over 2,300 daily flights across North America. By situating the maintenance base in Shreveport, SkyWest leverages the airport’s central location and robust infrastructure to optimize its maintenance operations.
“We are excited to expand our maintenance operations to Shreveport Regional Airport,” said Joe Sigg, SkyWest’s Vice President of Maintenance. “This new facility will play a crucial role in maintaining our high standards of safety and reliability, ensuring that we continue to provide exceptional service to our passengers.”
The establishment of the maintenance base is expected to create numerous job opportunities in the Shreveport area, including positions for aircraft maintenance technicians, inspectors, and support staff. This development underscores SkyWest’s dedication to contributing to the local economy and fostering community growth.
“SkyWest’s decision to locate a maintenance facility here represents the whole of government approach we have been taking during my administration, rallying state and local stakeholders to put local economies first,” Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry said. “I want to thank SkyWest for recognizing the skilled workforce we have built in Louisiana, and I want to thank all of the entities that came together to make this project possible.”
Shreveport Regional Airport, owned by the City of Shreveport and operated by the Shreveport Airport Authority, serves as a vital transportation hub for the region with nine nonstop destinations across four airlines.
